Important Notice – SmartLicence Mandates

Since the abolition of the paper driving licence paper counterpart in June 2015 driving licence details must be verified online against the DVLA database. In order to access a driver’s licence details using a commercial licence verification service such as SmartLicence, a D796 Mandate form needed to be signed by the driver.

In 2015 Descartes launched e-Consent to provide consent from drivers in a matter of minutes in a simple two-step electronic process approved by the DVLA.

However, the paper mandate option still exists. To avoid any delays in checking driving licences please ensure that any new paper mandates submitted are using the latest D796 Mandate form and return to the following address:  Wirral Tachograph Ltd Unit 7  Claremont Buildings  Old Clatterbridge Road  Spital  Wirral CH63 4JB. If you prefer you can also send us scanned copied to either of the email addresses below.

Without a valid mandate a licence cannot be verified with the DVLA.

Existing Smartanalysis, tachograph analysis customers using SmartLicence can get the latest D796 Mandate form and improve the speed and accuracy of paper mandates with pre-filled forms which can be obtained by using the new Driver Licence D796 Driver Mandate report in Smartanalysis.

To avoid an unrequired check it is essential that you inform us when drivers leave the company, so that the driver leaving employment can be marked on Smartanalysis as ‘inactive’.
